The Parish Council comprises a Chair plus ten other members; one of whom is designated Vice-Chair. All eleven Members are normally elected for a four-year term although due to the postponements of the elections from May 2020 to May 2021, the most recently elected Council has a three year term. The next election is due to be held in May 2024. All Councillors are members of the Full Council and the Planning Committee.
The Full Council meets a minimum of four times a year and usually starts at about 8.00pm. There is also a meeting of the Planning Committee held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. These latter meetings are called to consider planning applications and start at 7.30pm.
Meetings of the Finance and Governance Committee are held monthly. Meetings of the Community Assets and Community Services Committee are held on an ad hoc basis. The Personnel Committee meets at least on a quarterly basis although parts or all of a meeting may be closed to public, press and staff due to the confidential nature of the business. All meetings, including the Annual Parish Assembly, are held at the Parish Council offices in Hainault Road, Chigwell. The Annual Parish Assembly takes place in April each year although the recent pandemic has led to it not taking place, in common with most Parish Councils.
The Parish Council has two members of staff based at the office in Hainault Road, Chigwell and two staff members, Scott and Sam, based in Chigwell Cemetery in Manor Road, Chigwell.
