As part of our ongoing operational and administrative review, Chigwell Parish Council’s Cemetery Registrar will now be based at the Parish Council Offices, located at:

Our Cemetery Registrar oversees all matters relating to burials and the interment of cremated remains within Chigwell Cemetery. This includes providing guidance to families, funeral directors and memorial masons, and ensuring that all cemetery operations are carried out respectfully, lawfully, and in line with local regulations.
What the Cemetery Registrar DoesThe Registrar’s responsibilities include:
- Burial Administration
- Processing applications for burials and interments of cremated remains.
- Verifying burial rights and ownership of grave spaces.
- Issuing Exclusive Rights of Burial documentation.
- Maintaining accurate statutory records of all burials.
- Cemetery Coordination
- Liaising with funeral directors to arrange dates and times for burials.
- Coordinating with grounds staff to ensure grave preparation and site safety.
- Ensuring cemetery regulations are followed by all visitors and contractors.
- Support for Families
- Providing compassionate guidance to bereaved families regarding available options.
- Offering assistance with choosing grave spaces (where applicable).
- Answering queries about existing graves, memorials and cemetery rules.
- Memorials & Compliance
- Processing applications for new memorials and memorial works.
- Ensuring all memorials meet safety and regulatory requirements.
- Maintaining up‑to‑date cemetery maps, plans and registers.
The Registrar plays a key role in ensuring that all cemetery services are delivered with sensitivity, professionalism, and respect for the community.
