EFDC - Ongar and Abridge Fly Tippers Fined

Published: 01 April 2026

Epping Forest District Council News Release

Three residents have been issued Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) for fly tipping in the district.

Two Ongar residents were each issued with £400 FPNs after council CCTV captured them depositing waste in Bansons Car Park, Ongar.

Enforcement action followed reports from the public about repeated dumping in the area. The Environmental Enforcement Team investigated by examining the waste, gathering information from residents and businesses, and reviewing council CCTV footage. This resulted in identification of those responsible and they were each issued with penalties.

Abridge Fly Tipper Also Fined

In another incident in Abridge the perpetrator was also issued with a £400 FPN.

The location was outside Abridge Village Hall and again captured on CCTV showing waste being deposited to the side of a litter bin.

On visiting the site Environmental Enforcement Officers found the name and address of a household in Chigwell and the inhabitants were issued with a penalty notice.

Fine to Increase

Fly tipping is a criminal offence and from April 2026, the Council will increase the FPN for fly tipping from £400 to the maximum £1,000. This reflects residents’ concerns, the seriousness of the offence and the council’s commitment to tackling fly tipping and protecting local communities.
