Cemetery Traffic Management and Visitor Information

Published: 16 June 2026

Chigwell Parish Council owns and manages Chigwell Cemetery and is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, and well-organised environment for all visitors.

To improve safety and traffic flow within the cemetery, new road signage is being introduced. These measures are designed to assist vehicles entering the cemetery from Manor Road onto Froghall Lane (Cemetery Road). Priority will be given to vehicles entering the site, particularly to ease congestion when funeral processions are arriving. Visitors are kindly asked to observe all signage in the same manner as public road signs, giving priority to oncoming vehicles where indicated. It is essential that priority is always given to funeral vehicles entering the site to ensure dignity and smooth access during services.

To help visitors plan their visit, portable yellow signs with black lettering will be positioned in prominent locations when a funeral is taking place (two signs in total). These signs provide advance notice of funeral activity, allowing visitors already on site to be aware that temporary congestion may occur and to make a personal decision about whether to remain or leave. These notices are intended to inform and support visitors, and all visitors always remain welcome.

Council staff will be present on-site during funerals and will be available to provide guidance or assistance if required.

Due to limited parking capacity, there may be occasions during funerals when, in the interests of safety, the cemetery car park is temporarily closed to visitors. When this occurs, clear signage will be displayed (white text on a blue background) to advise accordingly.

The Council appreciates the cooperation and understanding of all visitors in supporting these arrangements, which are intended to maintain safety, accessibility, and respect within the cemetery.
