Chair Visits Local Theatre Group CROADS

Published: 29 June 2026

Cllr Debby Rye, Chair of Chigwell Parish Council, recently attended a taster morning hosted by CROADS (Chigwell Row Operatic and Dramatic Society), one of the community groups that regularly use Victory Hall.

The session aimed to encourage new members interested in taking part either on stage or behind the scenes. Director Paul Daynes opened the morning with an introduction to the group’s upcoming production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, which is scheduled for April 2027 and is set to be their largest production to date.

Attendees were given an opportunity to experience elements of the show, with songs performed and scenes acted out by prospective members.

Cllr Rye said:

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I met some very enthusiastic people, including Theresa ‘T’, who will be working backstage as a dresser for the show. I would especially like to thank Lindsey Kennedy, Sandra Hale, John Skates and the rest of CROADS for making me feel so welcome. I think my singing skills will need a little more practice before I put myself forward as a cast member!"

CROADS’ next production, Play On, will be performed in October.
