Cemetery Maintenance Update

We would like to provide residents and visitors with an update on ongoing cemetery maintenance works.
Recent weather conditions have presented several challenges. Prolonged periods of dry weather followed by rainfall have created ideal conditions for weed growth, particularly in areas of exposed ground. In addition, the predominantly clay-based soil within the cemetery has been affected by ground shrinkage during the dry period, resulting in cracking in some locations.
These issues have been further exacerbated by recent hosepipe restrictions and wider challenges associated with water supply across Chigwell and the surrounding area, limiting the ability to undertake regular watering and ground recovery works.
To address these seasonal issues, the Parish Council has arranged for a delivery of topsoil and scheduled maintenance works, which will include:
- Topping up areas affected by ground shrinkage and settlement.
- Removing weeds from affected areas.
- Improving the overall appearance and presentation of the cemetery.
- Continuing routine grounds maintenance across the site.
We thank residents and visitors for their patience and understanding while these works are undertaken. The Parish Council remains committed to maintaining the cemetery as a respectful and well-presented place of remembrance.
